I’m super excited right now! I just finished making my first silicone molds for Louie, and I thought I would share my process with you. I made lots of errors but I know for next time :)
I started by making a bed of clay to be able to pour the first half on top and create two-part molds. This was some kind of water clay I had lying around, and it ended up working pretty well for that job. Then, I mounted some walls out of cardboard (the one used for cereal boxes for example, it’s pretty resistant to liquids), and sealed with the glue gun (I cannot thank enough the guy that invented that, I really use it for everything).
Here is how the first half of the molds look like!
And here is the second one! As you can see I messed up a bit with the vents and the pouring; on the torso mold, I ended up closing those that I made on the ears, as someone on the forum Matériel Céleste told me: “you’ll end up with a resin-glazed table”. The pouring holes on the limbs mold I messed up too, I made them vertical first but realised I’d just end up with big bubbles on the high points, so I carved some new ones on the side.
Well, I’m all set now, wish me luck!
